SUMMARY:Ways for a Better Agricultural Policy and Why We Should Not Stop Thinking Politically\, with Madeleine Coste and Yael Pantzer [EN]
DESCRIPTION:This year the new European Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) was adopted – a key moment for farmers and our entire society\, as this reform only takes place about every seven years. Through its support policy\, the CAP determines which type of agriculture is profitable. It has far-reaching implications for the orientation of our food production\, our relationship with our land and our environment\, and the price we pay for food. And because the agricultural budget is the largest part of the EU budget\, it’s where many conflicting interests meet.⠀\n⠀\nWe will speak (in English) with Madeleine Coste and Yael Pantzer\, both EU Policy Officers in the office of Slow Food International in Brussels and who are advocating for sustainable food policies with decision makers. They will give us an insight into the current state of CAP decisions\, talk about their political work and discuss with us why it is so important to put political pressure and always think the political in our daily work. ⠀ \n  \nSPEAKERS\n  \nMadeleine Coste\, Slow Food International \n\n\n\nMadeleine Coste is an EU Policy Officer at Slow Food International’s office in Brussels\, advocating for sustainable food policies. Her work focuses on making the Slow Food network’s voice heard in the European capital\, on a variety of food policy topics such as pesticides\, GMOs and biodiversity\, highlighting the work of small-scale farmers\, cooks\, and activists fighting for a more sustainable and fair food system. Before joining Slow Food\, Madeleine completed a MSc in Food Policy where she got the opportunity to learn about the importance and mechanisms of integrated food policies\, and policy coherence\, and to work on the complexities of our current food systems. \n  \nYael Pantzer\, Slow Food International \nYael Pantzer is an EU Policy Officer at Slow Food International’s office in Brussels since almost two years\, as well as being the coordinator for Slow Food project’s and network in some European countries. She holds a master in Food Anthropology and a BA in Development Economics and International Cooperation.
