Keit

KEIT from Berlin is not just a bakery: it is, as they say, the story of the taste of Berlin and its surroundings, of the landscape and agriculture, of the places, people and habits that are so inextricably interwoven with its ingredients, its production and its aroma. A bread from Berlin, for Berlin.

1. Who are you?

We are KEIT, a bakery in Berlin that is passionately committed to combining tradition, innovation, craftsmanship and responsibility. Our motivation comes from a deep enthusiasm for excellent sourdough bread that is not only tasty, but also creates a connection to Berlin’s food culture and its immediate surroundings. With our attitude, we show that it is possible to easily integrate values such as sustainability, gratitude and reliability into our everyday lives.

2. What makes you special?

We stand for radical uncompromisingness. As pioneers in Berlin’s food culture, we focus on the essentials: high-quality sourdough bread. Our pursuit of perfection sets us apart. We work closely with producers, Berlin restaurants and science. We use innovative technologies such as digital sensors to measure the microclimate in the bakery.

3. Why are you a member of Die Gemeinschaft?

Collaboration and exchange with people from the scene are important to us. As part of a living organism of people from different backgrounds, we want to create something together that is greater than the sum of its parts. Die Gemeinschaft offers us the platform to enter into inspiring partnerships and help shape the future of the food system.

4. Which topics influence your work the most?

Our work is significantly influenced by topics such as sustainability, diversity in the city and conscious nutrition. We want people to understand, feel and taste what happens out in the countryside and are committed to bringing the diversity of an often underestimated region to the plate.

5. What do you think needs to change in the food system over the next few years?

We believe that an increased focus on local, sustainable and high-quality ingredients is imperative. We need to be more aware of our immediate environment and work more closely with stakeholders in the food system to promote sustainable and responsible eating.

Collaboration in the food system can be strengthened by building long-term partnerships, sharing knowledge and resources, and promoting transparency and trust. Joint initiatives, such as Die Gemeinschaft, provide platforms for interdisciplinary exchange and the joint development of sustainable solutions.

6. What excites you about your work?

We are a diverse collective of people from different backgrounds, united by shared values and a desire for the perfect loaf of bread. We are inspired by the diversity of Berlin and its creative lifestyles. Our work is an expression of the responsibility we have towards the environment and future generations. And that’s why we have fun every day.

7. What responsibility do players in the food system have?

This is about a fundamental transformation: actors in the food system have a responsibility to support sustainable practices, communicate local characteristics and offer consumers high-quality products. Joint efforts are needed to minimize the negative environmental and social impacts of the food system.

8. How can collaboration in the food system be strengthened?

Collaboration in the food system can be strengthened by building long-term partnerships, sharing knowledge and resources, and promoting transparency and trust. Joint initiatives, such as Die Gemeinschaft, provide platforms for interdisciplinary exchange and the joint development of sustainable solutions.

9. What are your plans and wishes for the future?

We would like to expand our partnerships, raise awareness of sustainable nutrition and make an even stronger commitment to local and high-quality ingredients. Our vision is that KEIT not only conveys high-quality food, but also important values – in Berlin and beyond the city’s borders.
