Comfort Food #6: Samina Raza – Reinforcing local food systems
“Food is political on a major global scale. Many people are not aware of that. The restaurant for us is a creative channel for a better food system.”
Samina Raza – Mrs Robinsons, 14.04.20
Mrs Robinson’s stands for innovative, contemporary cuisine with top products from the region. Samina Raza and her husband Ben Zviel, the head chef, work with independent and biodynamic farms and make an effort to change things in the field, in the kitchen and in our minds. Samina and Ben see the temporary closure of their restaurant as the perfect time to support and promote local producers and businesses. With that in mind, they are offering a delivery service running from Thursday to Saturday within Berlin, with selected products from their suppliers.
For Samina, the Corona crisis is the right time to support local food producers and acknowledge how important they are to fulfill our basic needs: “I think facing a crisis means to really focus on what is most important to you. We have to support local economics, local producers and independent small farms so they are still able to compete. This is our job as restaurateurs: to creatively engage people in this channel and to make the products we have around more exciting and desirable. Until we reach a point where they also become more affordable. It’s about the economics of what is valuable.”
This conversation was moderated by our director Friederike Gaedke.
